Lakes Near DFW

The Texas summer heat is here! Residents and tourists of Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and surrounding suburbs are enjoying the lake life! Texas has approximately 7,000 lakes of various sizes. In fact, there are about 50 major lakes and reservoirs within 100 miles of DFW. Most of these lakes are just a 30-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of the big city, giving residents the peace and quiet or fun in the sun that they crave.


Many DFW residents live in a community with its own lake or a lake nearby. And with warmer temperatures from spring through fall, lake life is a way of life in DFW! If you are relocating to DFW and enjoy boating and other fun water activities, you may want to consider moving near one of our many lakes around the DFW area. Lake Grapevine

Lake Grapevine is located on the northern border of the City of Grapevine, in the heart of DFW. The lake is approximately 8,000 acres and offers fishing, boating, and much more. Camping, cabin rentals, and hiking trails make a fun getaway from city life. Lake Grapevine is also home to the largest floating aqua park in Texas! The WhoaZone at Grapevine features a floating obstacle course, games, and lots of fun! It’s great for parties and group events, too.


In addition to beautiful luxury lakeside homes, there is an array of other housing options in the area. Lakeside Tower is a stunning high-rise condominium with amazing views of the waterfront. There are also plenty of single-family homes for families to call home.


Lake Lavon

Lake Lavon is located in southeast Collin County. Located along Lavon, Princeton, and Wylie, it’s about 30 miles from downtown Dallas. It’s a freshwater reservoir and one of the largest lakes in North Texas. There are plenty of activities at Lake Lavon. You will find 16 parks, 244 picnic sites,19 boat ramps, five beaches, and six group shelters. There are also 238 campsites and an equestrian trail along the shoreline. Hiking, biking, and fishing can’t be beat at Lake Lavon.


If you want to live on the lake, check out the private luxury lakeside developments in nearby Lucas. Many homes have direct access to the lake with their own private dock!


Eagle Mountain Lake

Eagle Mountain Lake is located approximately 15 miles from downtown Fort Worth. There you will find the Fort Worth Boat Club, one of the area's largest and most well-known sailing clubs. You may even see the occasional national and international regatta there! Recreational boating, skiing, and wakeboarding are other water sports you can enjoy at Eagle Mountain Lake. It’s also known for great fishing.


Eagle Mountain Lake is also known for its beautiful lakeside homes. Many people live lakeside all year, but for approximately 20% of residents, it’s the location of their second home. There are numerous hills and bluffs, providing scenic views of the lake. Living at Eagle Mountain Lake feels like a permanent vacation!


Lake Arlington

Lake Arlington sits between Dallas and Fort Worth. This lake is widely known for its bass fishing and hosts the Annual Bass Classic every April. In addition to fishing, you will find hiking trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas.


Lake Arlington Golf Course is also a favorite among residents. Waterfront homes and lake houses are among the sought-after communities in Lake Arlington.


Lake Lewisville

Lake Lewisville is in Denton County, home to the Lewisville, Highland Village, Frisco, and Little Elm communities. You will find six marinas, three restaurants, and 12 parks at Lake Lewisville. The lake itself is 29,000 acres with 233 miles of shoreline and 9,000 acres of protected land surrounding it. You can enjoy boating and a wide variety of water sports here, plus hiking and biking trails that wrap around the lake. Enjoy the beaches, campgrounds, and golf courses, too!


Lake Lewisville is one of the top real estate markets for those looking for waterfront and lakeside homes. There are even lake lots for sale if you want to build your dream home on the lake!


A few other favorites within a short distance to Collin Country are

Lake Texoma, Lake Ray Roberts and Cedar Creek Lake.
